Accommodation details

The farmhouse was built in 1864 and later extended and modernised in 1980. In 1840 it was just 13 acres and was made up of 8 small fields. These are now one large field.

In the census of 1851 it showed that there were 3 dwellings at Caerhys. 14 people lived here some were farmers and one was a slater and his family, he probably worked in the slate quarry at Abereiddy.

Gerald`s father acquired tenancy of Caerhys in 1934 which had mixed farming. In 1967 he bought the farm which was now approx 70 acres, it is now in total 160 acres. Along the decades it has been a good early producing farm, growing 70 acres of early potatoes in the 70's and 80's as well as running a dairy herd and growing arable crops and pasture to feed all the livestock. In 1998 we gained our organic licence.

In 2003 due to falling milk prices, we decided to sell our dairy herd.

We hope you will enjoy your stay at Caerhys. We will do our best to make your holiday as relaxing and as comfortable as possible.

Bed and Breakfast
This is the very large sitting room/breakfast room, with its beautiful beamed ceiling and antique furniture.

Breakfast is normally served from 8-9 o'clock unless otherwise requested, but please let me know the evening before what time you would prefer it. We serve fresh fruit salad according to season at the starter buffet as well as fruit juices and cereals. Our full welsh cooked breakfast contains sausages and bacon produced from our own home bred pigs (when available). We also cater for vegetarians.

All produce is sourced organic and locally when possible.

At the end of the day relax with a book or have a chat around the cosy log burner.

All bedrooms have a colour TV with remote control, tea making facilities, radio clock and hair dryer.
Wireless Broadband access is available.

Bedroom 1 is a double and bedroom 2 is a twin / double bedroom, both are en suite and both have full sea views of Abereiddy. Bedroom 3 is a double room with has farmyard and country views, this bedroom also has a bathrobe for your personal use with private bathroom. All bathrooms have showers.

Clean towels are available daily if required, but in the interest of the environment they are normally changed every three days.

Dan-Y-Graig Cottage - sleeps 6 plus a cot
Our self catering holiday cottage is available all year round. There are three bedrooms, 2 double and one smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is a living room, dinning room and well equipped kitchen. The bathroom has a bath and wash basin and separate shower unit and there is a separate W.C.

The Area
Come and enjoy a variety of activities such as coasteering, surfing, absailing or snorkling and enjoy our beautiful beaches whether just sitting and relaxing or exploring the rock pools and taking a swim. Take a walk along the coastal path and take in the fantastic views especially the large variety of flowers and fauna which are at their best in May and June. We have many local beaches Whitesands which is approx. 5 miles away, Abereiddy is just 1/2 mile, with its Blue Lagoon,a former slate quarry.

Abereiddy was a quarry village, only ruins are left now except those restored as holiday cottages. It is famous for its tuning-fork graptolite fossils that can be found in the slates on the beach.

Traethllyfn is a beautiful beach and is just a short walk along the costal path from Abereiddy.

The village of Porthgain is approx. 11/2 miles along the coastal path. Sailing ships and steamers came into the little harbour in Victorian and Edwardian times and took roadstone as far as London. Bricks and slates were exported too. Sadly all came to a dramatic end on July 23rd 1931.

If your hobby is golfing, we have three golf courses, St.Davids, 9 hole, just 5 miles away, Priskilly 9 hole approx. 7 miles and Haverfordwest 18 hole approx 18 miles.

Enjoy the history of Pembrokeshire from its castles and cromlechs to St.Davids and the ancient burial grounds. There are many galleries, crafts shops and pottery workshops and mills to visit in locall villages and towns.
