Castlemartin and St Govan’s Chapel

Continuing West from Bosherston and Broadhaven beach is the MOD range at Castlemartin. A small village, whose church boasts an organ once owned by Mendelssohn! Crossing the range towards the coast you come to most amazing little chapel: St Govan’s Chapel. It is a tiny little chapel, wedged into the cliff overlooking the sea. Legend has it that, St Govan, a visiting Irish monk, was set upon by a band of pirates. He took shelter in the cliffs and they opened up and folded gently around him, protecting him and saving him from certain death. He spent many years living here and is thought to be buried under the altar. Access to the chapel is via a stone staircase.
Access may be limited occasionally as the chapel is on MOD ground, for details please call: 01646 662340.

St Govan's is very close to the beautiful beach at Barafundle Bay, Bosherston village and its lovely lily ponds and the National Trust owned Stackpole estate,
