About 10 miles along the coast from Llanelli, is Kidwelly, a small and quiet town with a magnificent castle with some of the best remains of any medieval Welsh Castle.
Tactically situated overlooking the River Gwendraeth, the castle was built around 1100 by the Bishop of Salisbury. See here for the Kidwelly Castle website.
Just out of town is the old quay, a charming picnic area overlooking the coast and the mud flats and salt pans, home to many sea birds and waders.
