About 15 miles South East of Porthcawl on the coast is Nash Point, which is situated on a headland and has 2 lighthouses, one of which is in working order. Nash Point is excellent for Walks and Picnics, and there are a number of paths that take you from the cliff top down to the beach. From the cliff top there are excellent views across the Bristol Channel to the hills of Devon and Somerset and of the Gower coastline further to the South West of Wales.
About 19 miles East of Porthcawl is Llantwit Major, which comprises a village with narrow streets and stone buildings. St. Illtyd’s 5th Century Church includes a 1000 year old font. A stream also flows through the village.
About 20 miles to the East of Porthcawl, on the coast, is the Seawatch Centre (which is just South of Llantwit Major). From the Seawatch Centre you can watch the the ships in the Bristol Channel from a ship’s bridge in a converted coastguard radio station. You are also able to listen to their radio messages and plot their course on radar equipment.
