Details: Skokholm

2 miles to the south of Skomer, is the smaller island of Skokholm, a mere 240 acres of red sandstone and home to Britain's first bird observatory. In 1933, naturalist and author, Ronald Lockley established the observatory, having taken on the lease for the island in 1927. He lived there until world war 2, and during his time carried out research work on the many seabirds that nest there. Walkers are able to take guided trips around the wildlife trust of west wales reserve in summer.
